HELEN MAALOUF

Stylist and Headwear Designer

"Ever since I was young I would get into trouble for cutting up my mother’s leggings, pulling buttons off garments and colouring in my toys. I always had a curious nature when it came to designing and creativity just came naturally. Growing up, I would watch my grandmother sew and this played a huge part in my interest for design. She taught me the art of hand craft and how to make beautiful pieces using such simple materials.

I was always so impressed by what she could make with a simple roll of fabric or box of buttons and my passion for designing has not left me since. I knew designing was my destiny and that I would follow my dream to the very end.

In 2010 I successfully graduated from Ultimo Tafe with my Diploma in Applied Fashion Design and Technology. I was one step closer to my dream. I had accomplished what I set out to do and I knew there was no turning back. I looked forward to expanding my creativity, skills and knowledge in Fashion.

I spent a year interning with different fashion houses in Sydney such as Alice McCall, Cooper St and Oxford. In 2011, I decided to start my own label to share my creations. I wanted everyone to appreciate hand craft as much as I do and work towards getting closer to my dream. I started off designing clothing which incidentally led me to styling shoots and designing bespoke headwear.
